Through my experiences in the classroom thus far, I have incorporated each of the five International Society for Technology Education Teacher Standards (ISTS NETS-T) with the following examples of my work:

Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

Teachers must understand that with the age of technology, information is constantly accumulating. Whether there are new perspectives revealed about a topic in history, a new program to work on math facts is archived online, or more research is coming out to help educators better prepare their students, teachers should use technology as a tool to create opportunities for inspiring student learning and creativity in the classroom. There are several ways to have students get excited about learning a topic whether they are given tools or programs to use in order to personalize their projects through UDL means or students are exposed to valuable resources accessible online through credible websites such as NOAA if you are studying a science topic. Below are examples of how to provide this foundation and support to get students excited to learn and grow in their education.

This is a learning cycle lesson about storms where students are exposed to authentic scientific data and research through satellite images and news articles. Students used this information to complete a PBL activity and make predictions about a current storm coming up the coast at the time when this lesson was taught to these two fourth grade classes.
This powerpoint is the supplemental extension of the learning cycle lesson and PBL component of the science lesson.
This is a review for an online tool used for creating projects, assignments, class pages, and blogs. This tool is analyzed through several lenses to understand the functions of the website program as well as how to use this tool for educational purposes.
This is a review for a technological listening program for editing and recording sounds for any academic use. This tool is analyzed through several means as well to understand the potential role this tool can play in the classroom and with students for class assignments.


Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

This standard suggests teachers to create digital age experiences and assessment types for students. Whether you are creating a student-centered lesson with technology means or an online rubric for students to model after or create themselves through a program such as Rubistar, teachers need to create these opportunities for students to be exposed to in class. As a teacher you should be constantly searching for relevancy and the most up-to-date information on any given topic. Students today are growing up with the world of technology around them more and more. As teachers we need to relate to the world they are living in and provide them with context for everything they are learning. By doing so, students can relate more to what they are learning, potentially have more interest in the topics, and present or organize information in creative ways.

This lesson plan incorporates several means of technology. An instructional video put up on Youtube is used to explain the premise behind a student project for first graders to complete about the sun, moon, and Earth. A Prezi presentation is used to expose students to background knowledge about the topics covered. Additionally, ipads are used for students to explore with technology placed in their hands. Finally a rubric is created digitally to assess students on this technology-centered lesson.

This is a supplemental PowerPoint presentation for the direct instruction portion of the lesson. Below is the sample data I collected when I tested out and completed the project myself along with a reflection of how planning and creating this lesson went based on my experience going through it myself which relates to the next standard as well.

Standard 3: Model Digital Age Work and Learning

This standard is important especially for younger students with less of a foundation or experience with technology. All students will need scaffolding and proper support in order to properly learn how to use technology and learn through technology throughout their academic careers. As teachers the more you incorporate technology or technological resources in your lesson plans, the more exposure students can have and the more their digital age skill sets can grow. The younger grades need a lot of modeling in order to grasp higher level and newer concepts. As a teacher you should provide students with a strong enough of a foundation to leap off of in order for students to complete any independent work to follow. Whether you are using technology to model a new concept through an online program such as Evernote to learn how to take notes or find ideas for projects or through an online organizer to organize information collected, students should properly model according to maturity, ability level, background knowledge, and technological skill sets.

This lesson plans consists of three drafts of a lesson which were taught and critiqued as the lesson moved through the planning process. The teacher modeled ideas covered in the lesson through technological means. Two primary examples are through a Youtube video introduction in which the teacher models the movements the Kindergarten and 1st grade students were to follow. Another example in the lessons included using a document camera to display work or examples the teacher completed for the students to use as a guide or model for completing their work to follow or as a review.
This is a review with a link to a template example of this online writing tool for teachers and students to use. This review promotes and models this resource so that educators and students alike may know what to use this program for as well as how to use it appropriately.


Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility

This standard makes sure that teachers educate students about the local and global responsibilities when working with technology. Technology can come in many forms and with any piece of technology or digital program students should be aware of the presence they may have by using technology, how to handle it properly, how the technology can help them, as well as the legal and ethical issues associated with not using technology properly. Students should review Copyright information as well as ways to safely use online resources such as through Creative Commons and through other means to educate themselves. Teachers should set a bar and lay out expectations for proper use early on so students learn the appropriate use for technological practices as well as the potential dangers they could run into before they participate in school or at home using technology.

This is a handout crafted for elementary-aged students which can be accommodated for pre-school, middle school students, or older about internet safety. The handout is written for a student and parent audience for all parties to consider how to use the internet wisely especially when collecting information and research for school projects. The handout incorporates visual images as well as written text to explain the major concepts of copyright and fair use safety tips.
This is a review and examples included for how to properly and safely use this visualization program. There are modeled examples included to demonstrate the various uses for the website. There are also cautions to be aware of when determining how to use this in an educational environment. I also conversed with the Twitter account of this company about the educational uses to find out more information.


Standard 5: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

This is a critical standard for teachers to follow in order to develop their plethora of resources as well as grow in their abilities as an educator. By connecting with other professionals in similar fields through various means, teachers can continuously gain knowledge, access, resources, and improve their professional practices. Teachers need the foundation themselves in order to teach students how to use technology. Therefore, teachers should constantly be collaborating and looking for useful resources. Using digital networks such as Twitter or Pinterest are great ways to start. I have recently found several useful things just by browsing twitter and picking favorites to add to my collection of teacher resources online such as using Edsurge for student projects or finding ways to let students make more decisions in their education. Conducting research is a great way to build support for yourself as a teacher as well as learn new ways to focus students such as through music or through other means in order to be an effective teacher. Whether you are directly interacting with another person such as through Edmodo or ePals or through looking at what resources others collect and share online, networking for professional resources is a great way to model lifelong learning, demonstrate professional decorum, and show leadership initiatives to improve your teachings as well as for those around you, sharing with them in return. One way to accomplish this is through making your own website to share teacher resources such as a blog like mine Turn the Pages Here. This is a review of a tool easily accessible, online used to connect with others digitally. This review explains the benefits, features, and educational opportunities as well as limitations. This review was crafted for the purpose of informing other educators about using Google+ as well as understanding how to use this tool for professional development related to education in order to connect and share with others in similar fields.
This pdf is a compilation of the wiki items our teacher prep class shared together as we informed each other of useful or available online tools to use as educators. This presentation and sharing process happened over a series of weeks where each person in the elementary technology course shared one tool per week labeled as one of the following by our professor and colleagues of hers: create, connect, listen, organize, visualize, and write.
This is a collection of review from a conference I attended for Mathematics which also incorporated various forms of technology. I attended this conference to gain more resources as a teacher to teach tougher topics to teach, gain experience with subjects I had less exposure to in my current placement, see how to incorporate technology in mathematics, and network with other mathematics educators in various fields.
